Paraformaldehyde CAS#30525-89-4

CAS Number: 30525-89-4

Chemical Name: Paraformaldehyde

Chemical Formula: (CH₂O)ₓ, a linear polymeric form of formaldehyde

Common Synonyms: P-FORMALDEHYDE, POLYACETAL, POLYACETAL RESIN, Polyoxymethylene, Paraform

Product Description: This product is supplied in uniform prilled form, presenting a white to off-white granular appearance. It is a stable polymer of formaldehyde, widely adopted as a convenient solid source of formaldehyde in diverse synthetic and formulation processes. The prilled grade features good free-flowing performance, lowers dust generation during handling and feeding, and brings easier metering and transportation for end users.

MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity): 1 full container load (FCL) for bulk shipment.

Paraformaldehyde CAS#30525-89-4

Paraformaldehyde is a white solid granular product with a faint, characteristic pungent formaldehyde odour. It is a linear polymeric form of formaldehyde, with the chemical structure HO(CH₂-O)ₓH and an average polymerization degree x of approximately 30. Its water solubility is closely related to the chain length of polymer molecules: fractions with x less than 12 can dissolve readily in water, while longer-chain polymer fractions do not dissolve instantly. When mixed with water, it undergoes gradual hydrolysis, breaking down into shorter-chain oligomers and releasing active formaldehyde species for downstream reactions.

This material is classified as a flammable solid, though ignition requires a sustained heat source, with a flash point of 158 °F. Compared with aqueous formaldehyde solution, this solid-grade paraformaldehyde brings advantages including lower moisture content, easier storage and transportation, and more precise dosage control. It is widely adopted as a key raw material in the production of fungicides and bactericides for agricultural and industrial sterilization scenarios, as well as for synthesizing various types of adhesives and polyacetal resins. It carries environmental hazards, therefore proper containment measures must be implemented immediately to prevent uncontrolled leakage and diffusion into soil and water systems.

Product Application

Paraformaldehyde is a polymerized form of formaldehyde. It acts as a fumigant and disinfectant, and is widely applied to synthesize melamine resin, phenolic resin and polyacetal resin.

In biological laboratories, it is a common fixative material for cell and tissue samples, and widely used in electron microscopy. It can be formulated into formalin fixative for tissue and cell preservation. Note that paraformaldehyde itself has no fixing activity; it needs to be heated to depolymerize into formaldehyde monomer to realize the fixation function.

Main Application Scenarios

  • Resin industry: Raw material for melamine, phenol and polyacetal resin synthesis

  • Disinfection & fumigation: Sterilization and fumigation in breeding farms, warehouses and enclosed spaces

  • Life science lab: Tissue / cell fixation, electron microscopy sample preparation, formalin preparation

Factory and Equipment Show

Our plant is equipped with stable polymerization, dehydration, granulation and packaging lines. Strict process control keeps its depolymerization performance and content stable batch by batch.

An independent QC lab carries out regular tests for purity, moisture and free formaldehyde. All batches pass inspection before delivery with COA available.

Packaging & Transportation

Standard packing: 25kg woven bag with inner PE liner. Custom marks and pallet packing are acceptable.

Paraformaldehyde is classified as dangerous goods. Keep away from heat, open flame and oxidants during transport and storage. Store in cool, dry and ventilated warehouse.

We can supply MSDS, COA, packing list and commercial invoice for customs clearance.

Lead Time

  • In stock: Shipment within 2–3 working days

  • New production order: 7–10 working days, depending on order quantity

After-sales Service & Support

All batches support quality traceability. We provide technical guidance for storage, handling and depolymerization operation.
