Cyclamen aldehyde is a synthetic aromatic aldehyde widely applied in global fragrance‑flavour industry. It appears as clear, colourless to pale‑yellow liquid at room temperature, featuring a powerful, diffusive floral odour reminiscent of cyclamen and lily‑of‑the‑valley, with subtle fresh melon‑green undertones. It performs excellent stability under alkaline conditions, making it well‑suited for soap and detergent formulations.

This compound may be synthesized by condensation reaction between cuminic aldehyde and propionaldehyde, followed by catalytic hydrogenation. In commercial manufacturing, precise process control is implemented to reduce by‑products and guarantee consistent odour profile and high assay purity.

It dissolves readily in ethanol and most fatty oils, while showing very low solubility in water and glycerine. As a key fragrance building‑block, cyclamen aldehyde is extensively incorporated into fine perfumes, cosmetics, body‑care items, soaps and household detergents. It can harmonize nicely with rose, ionone and musk‑type aroma materials to enhance fresh floral top‑notes and improve fragrance substantivity.
