Ox bile extract, also referred to as purified oxgall and sodium choleate, is produced through the evaporation of alcoholic extracts derived from concentrated bovine bile. It constitutes a complex natural mixture containing variable proportions of bile acid salts, lipid fractions including cholesterol and lecithin, choline compounds, glycine, and other trace bioactive substances.

The primary functional components, bile acids, naturally exist in the form of sodium salts within the bile of most vertebrates and are classified as derivatives of steroid cholanic acid. Key bile acid constituents include cholic acid (3,7,12-trihydroxycholanic acid), desoxycholic acid (3,12-dihydroxy-5-cholanic acid), glycocholic acid (cholylglycine), and taurocholic acid (cholyltaurine). These steroid-based acids endow ox bile extract with unique surface-active and biological characteristics that cannot be easily replicated by synthetic surfactants.

Thanks to the excellent emulsification and surfactant properties inherent to bile salts, ox bile extract finds valuable applications within certain food formulations. It acts as a natural emulsifier, helping blend oil and aqueous phases, stabilizing fat dispersions and preventing phase separation in finished products. Cholic acid, desoxycholic acid, glycocholic acid, taurocholic acid, as well as ox bile extract itself, are substances generally recognized as safe (GRAS) for specified use cases.

Beyond food-grade emulsification, this yellow powdered extract is widely adopted in microbiology culture media as a selective growth additive, inhibiting gram-positive bacteria while supporting the cultivation of target microorganisms. It also serves as a critical raw material for biochemical research, pharmaceutical intermediate synthesis, and high-grade animal feed supplements to promote fat digestion and nutrient absorption.

Our ox bile extract is carefully refined and standardized to ensure consistent bile salt content, low impurities and stable batch-to-batch quality. It is supplied as free-flowing yellow powder, easy to dissolve and incorporate into liquid or powder formulations.
