Product Description of Titanocene Dichloride (CAS No.: 1271-19-8)
Titanocene dichloride, with the chemical formula (η⁵-C₅H₅)₂TiCl₂ (commonly shortened to Cp₂TiCl₂), is an organotitanium compound extensively used as a reagent in organometallic chemistry and organic synthesis. It presents as a bright red solid and undergoes slow hydrolysis when exposed to air.
Unlike common metallocenes such as ferrocene, Cp₂TiCl₂ does not have a sandwich structure. Instead, its four ligands coordinate around the titanium center, forming a tetrahedral geometry. Furthermore, due to its proven anti-tumor activity, it has been studied in clinical trials as a potential chemotherapeutic agent.

Product Application of Titanocene Dichloride (CAS No.: 1271-19-8)
Titanocene dichloride acts as a highly efficient homogeneous catalyst in reactions including olefin polymerization and hydrogenation. It can also be applied in one-pot synthesis processes—for instance, in the preparation of α-methylene-γ-butyrolactone from benzaldehyde and methyl bromoacrylate.
In addition, it serves as an effective hydrogenation catalyst and is mainly used in polymerization and hydrogenation systems. Thanks to its relatively low toxicity and biological activity, it has also been explored for use as an active component in pharmaceutical applications.
