Glycine CAS#56-40-6

Glycine is a white, odourless crystalline powder with a mild sweet flavour. Its aqueous solution exhibits acidic reaction when tested with litmus paper. Approximately 1 gram of glycine can dissolve in around 4 millilitres of water. The compound shows only trace solubility in alcohols and ethers. Multiple production routes are available for manufacturing glycine. It can be synthesized via the reaction between chloroacetic acid and ammonia, or extracted from protein raw materials including gelatin and silk fibroin. Other feasible processes employ ammonium bicarbonate together with sodium cyanide, catalytic cleavage of serine, or the reaction of hydrobromic acid with methyleneaminoacetonitrile.

Product Application of Glycine CAS#56-40-6

Glycine is a nonessential amino acid that functions as a nutrient and dietary supplement. it has a solubility of 1 g in 4 ml of water and is abundant in collagen. it is used to mask the bitter aftertaste of saccharin, for example, in artificially sweetened soft drinks. it retards rancidity in fat.

glycine is an amino acid used as a texturizer in cosmetic formulations. It makes up approximately 30 percent of the collagen molecule.

H2: Product Application

H3: Food & Beverage Industry

As a flavor modifier and antioxidant stabilizer, glycine effectively covers bitter and metallic off-notes in low-calorie beverages, seasonings, surimi products and baked food. It can chelate metal ions to inhibit fat oxidation and delay oil rancidity, extending shelf life of nut products, margarine and canned food. It also serves as nutritional fortifier to supplement amino acids in functional food.

H3: Nutritional & Dietary Supplement

It is widely applied in amino acid compound powder, sports nutrition formulas and joint-health supplements. As the simplest amino acid, glycine participates in collagen and creatine synthesis, supporting body tissue repair. It features high water solubility and mild taste, easy to formulate into tablets, capsules and oral sachets.

H3: Cosmetic & Personal Care

Acts as texturizer, humectant and pH buffer in skincare, hair care and oral care products. It is an important component of collagen structure, helping maintain skin moisture and soothe skin irritation. It stabilizes formula system and improves texture of creams, lotions and facial masks.

H3: Pharmaceutical Raw Material

Used as raw material for amino acid infusion and oral compound preparations, and serves as buffering agent for tablets and vitamin formulations. It can also be applied in biochemical culture medium and laboratory buffer solution for biological research.

H3: Animal Feed & Additive

Added to livestock, poultry and pet feed to balance amino acid composition, improve feed utilization rate and promote animal growth. It can reduce stress response of breeding animals and enhance nutrient absorption efficiency.

H3: Industrial & Pesticide Intermediate

Serves as key intermediate for herbicide glyphosate synthesis. It is also used as complexing agent and additive in electroplating liquid and fertilizer additives.
