Magnesium stearate, also referred to as magnesium octadecanoate, is a white powdery solid under room temperature. Its chemical formula is Mg(C₁₈H₃₅O₂)₂. Structurally, it is a metallic salt composed of one magnesium cation (Mg²⁺) paired with two stearate anions derived from stearic acid.
This product melts at approximately 120 °C and shows almost no solubility in water. It possesses good lubricity, anti-caking and mold release properties, making it a common functional additive across many fields.
