3,4-Dimethoxythiophene (DMOT) is a high-value thiophene monomer and key synthetic precursor. It can be synthesized by ring closure reaction of 2,3-dimethoxy-1,3-butadiene and sulfur dichloride in hexane medium. As an electron-rich oligothiophene derivative, the two methoxy substituents on the thiophene ring endow it excellent electron-donating capability, adjustable electrochemical performance and good solubility in common organic solvents.

DMOT serves as a critical building block widely used in the development of electroactive materials for organic electronics based applications. It can undergo transesterification reaction to produce 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT), which is the core monomer for PEDOT conductive polymer. Besides the synthesis of EDOT, DMOT can also be directly polymerized into poly(3,4-dimethoxythiophene), applied in organic photovoltaic cells (OPV), OLED devices, organic thin-film transistors, conductive inks, anti-static coatings, electrochemical sensors and supercapacitor electrode materials.

Our offered DMOT has purity ≥98%, presented as colorless transparent liquid. Strict quality control is implemented during production, and full COA will be provided for each batch to guarantee consistent performance for customers’ material R&D and mass manufacturing.
